Ethics have been much compromised since the Reagan era. The roles of good and evil (empires) are too muddied these days. Businesses have suffered serious reputation scars, so much so that almost the entire growth in the movement of corporate social responsibility has occurred après Reagan.
We now have many companies embracing the word "green" as a surrogate for the word "trust." This is supposed to prove that they are good corporate citizens, trustworthy if you will. But there is little to back up these claims. Others highlight other aspects of social responsibility to show that -- see, see! -- they too are good.
