Renewable power comes from resources that replenish naturally and are virtually inexhaustible in duration. It is typically associated with very low environmental impacts, including little or no greenhouse gas emissions, and is thus increasingly an attractive source of energy. “Renewables” generally refers to biomass, hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, ocean thermal, wave action and tidal action. “Alternative energy,” more broadly, is usually taken to mean non-fossil-fuel derived energy, including renewables, but also hydrogen fuel cells and other technologies.
