Bullying in the workplace is widespread in the UK, affecting 80 percent of employees, with a third of employees so unhappy they had considered leaving their job, according to the charity the Samaritans. The group's research, based on interviews with 2,600 adults, revealed that younger employees were the most susceptible to stress. Around thirteen million working days in the UK were thought to have been lost to stress during 2005. Half of those questioned said that they had witnessed a colleague reduced to tears at work, and a third believed that employers ignored the problem.
