Lisa Busch came up with a novel plan to find work for hundreds of
displaced timber mill workers in her town of Sitka, Alaska. Though many of the workers resented environmentalists as part of the reason they
had lost their jobs, Lisa created Sitka Trail Works, which retrained
them to develop nature trails in the surrounding forests. The result:
people in town were gainfully employed again, there was an increase in
tourism, and everyone saw something valuable in respecting the
environment.
This short film by fbi productions, profiling her story,
premiered at the Third Annual Volvo for life Awards in New York in
April 2005.
