The
House of Representatives will try to take up legislation extending
renewable energy tax credits before lawmakers head out of town in the
next few days for the November elections campaign trail.
The House tax
package, which may be voted on later on Thursday, is slightly different
from legislation passed by the Senate Tuesday, throwing into question
whether there is time to reach a final deal.

A growing number of companies are taking a hard look at the cost and
performance of cardboard boxes, wood pallets and other limited-use
transport packaging. While it's far from being a standard across
industries, "going reusable" has paid off handsomely for many leading
companies. Some of them -- including John Deere, Toro, Cummins, General
Motors, Pepsico, as well as Ghirardelli Chocolate -- will share their
success stories and experiences at today's "Choose Reusables!"

The U.S. House of Representatives passed
legislation Tuesday that lifts a longstanding ban on offshore oil
drilling, opening most of the U.S. coastline to exploration.
The package proposed by Democrats would give states the option to
allow drilling between 50 and 100 miles (80 and 160 km) off their
shores. Areas more than 100 miles from the coast would be completely
open to oil exploration and drilling.

Under the WEEE directive – which was introduced last year and aims to ensure
that the cost of potentially hazardous electronic waste is covered by the
manufacturers – producers are allowed to pass the cost of safe disposal or
recycling onto customers.
However, they are not permitted to separate the entire cost as a surcharge,
after the government decided that imposing a visible extra charge upon customers
would make them resentful of measures that were introduced to help ensure
environmental best practices are adhered to.
