Hoeing, seeding, and picking may not sound like
a holiday but their appeal is gaining as more and more people want to see where
their food comes from. The same drive that leads them to visit farmers’ markets
or join community-supported agriculture, farm-share programs is drawing them to
the farm itself. Thus an industry is born: agritourism.

Industries, a nonprofit rehabilitation center for former gang members founded
20 years ago by Father Gregory Boyle, a parish priest in the Boyle Heights
neighborhood near downtown, just opened a spacious new bakery and a training
and job development center.
Winners have the chance to win up to 25,000 in contest devoted to raising environmental awareness.
