Campaigners Support EU Biofuel Cutbacks (activism)

Environmental campaigners have welcomed a decision by the European Parliament to scale back plans to increase the use of first generation biofuels but claim the decision does not go far enough and targets should be scrapped altogether.

In a vote on Thursday, members of the European Parliament's Industry committee voted to amend an earlier commitment from the European Commission that 10 per cent of all road transport fuels should come from renewable sources by 2020.

UK Climate Protesters Fail to Stop E.ON Output (activism)

KINGSNORTH (Reuters) - Climate protesters scaled security fences to enter the site of a coal-fired power station in southeast England on Saturday but German firm E.ON, which runs the plant, said output had not been disrupted. Police said they arrested about 50 people during the protest, which began as a peaceful march but descended into violent scuffles with police in riot gear as activists raced at the site's perimeter fences.
